Shaunavon will move toward completion of its new multi-purpose recreational facility, the Wickenheiser Centre, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program.
Cypress Hills MLA Wayne Elhard on behalf of Municipal Affairs Minister Jeremy Harrison, announced the Town of Shaunavon will receive an additional $328,259 in provincial funding to complete Phase 3 construction of the multipurpose facility.
In winter, the facility will serve as skating and curling surfaces and other times of the year will be used for numerous physical activities such as ball hockey, lacrosse, summer play programs, preseason conditioning and sports clinics. The facility's location is in near proximity to the swimming pool, outdoor basketball court, ball diamonds, tennis courts and horseshoe pits, which gives the opportunity to host various events.
"This announcement today again shows our commitment to continue investing in needed infrastructure like the Wickenheiser Centre," Elhard said. "These projects help move Saskatchewan forward with greater recreational opportunities for the Town of Shaunavon and surrounding communities."
This funding comes in addition to $1.1 million in provincial and federal RInC funding announced in October. The total cost of the project is $5.7 million.
There have been 108 projects announced to date under the RinC program for $12.1million in provincial funding. Total project costs under the program are $42 million including municipal/local organization contributions and federal/provincial funding.
