The Government of Saskatchewan has issued a $169,900 contract to R.L. Miller Contracting Ltd. for the construction of a new entry kiosk/park office building at Emma Lake Recreation Site.
The new multipurpose building will replace the current kiosk and office buildings which are now more than thirty-five years old. The building will also be relocated in order to ease traffic flow for park guests.
"It is important that we continue to maintain and improve our provincial parks system," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "The new multipurpose building at Emma Lake will ensure a more enjoyable park experience for visitors and a safe and healthy working environment for staff."
"By investing in the Emma Lake Recreational Site, our government is taking action to keep the Saskatchewan economy strong and steady," Saskatchewan Rivers MLA Nadine Wilson said. "We are also providing Saskatchewan families with affordable recreational opportunities when they vacation this summer."
The Emma Lake Recreation Site construction is part of government's continuing commitment to enhance Saskatchewan's provincial parks system. The budget for capital improvements in provincial parks increased from $7.2 million in 08-09 to nearly $11 million in 09-10 as part of the ministry's rebuilding and renewing plans. The initiative includes renovating or replacing some service centres, park entry and campground kiosks and picnic shelters. There are also plans to upgrade boat launches and replace picnic tables and barbeques.
These improvements are in addition to the 2008 announcement of a four-year plan to add electricity to 1,000 campsites. More than 300 of these campsites will be available for campers to use this summer; another 200 to 300 will be ready for the 2010 camping season.
