The Saskatchewan Government is providing funds to further advance planning for the redevelopment of Lloydminster Hospital.
The Ministry of Health is providing Prairie North Health Region with $450,000 to complete all necessary planning, and review and confirm the scope of work needed to rejuvenate the hospital. Approval of the scope of capital plans is an important step in advancing a project to the final stage of approval in Saskatchewan. Given the unique circumstances in Lloydminster, co-ordination of hospital planning and programming implications must also meet the requirements of Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Health Ministry.
"The Lloydminster Hospital has seen a big increase in demand for services. The Saskatchewan Government wants to make sure the scope and details of redevelopment plans will equip the hospital to serve residents' current and future health care needs," Lloydminster MLA Tim McMillan said.
"Redevelopment of Lloydminster Hospital to meet the expanded needs of a population that has grown by over 21 per cent in the past decade is a high priority for Prairie North Health Region," Prairie North Health Region CEO David Fan said. "We are grateful for the additional dollars from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health to support further planning for the project."
The Lloydminster Hospital is operated by Prairie North Health Region. Operating costs and capital construction investments are jointly funded by Alberta and Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan's health capital funding policy requires a local contribution of 35 per cent.
Prairie North Health Region provides services and programs to more than 72,000 residents of northwest central Saskatchewan from The Battlefords and Meadow Lake, to the Alberta border. The organization also provides health services for more than 17,000 residents on the Alberta side of Lloydminster and area. The health region employs more than 2,900 staff and manages 26 facilities and sites.
