WINNERS OF HERITAGE POSTER CONTEST ANNOUNCED

Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart and Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell honoured four Saskatchewan students at the Legislative Building today during the 6th Annual Heritage Poster Contest for Saskatchewan Students awards ceremony.

"Saskatchewan has a rich and fascinating history," Barnhart said. "Our heritage sites embody the stories of our courageous ancestors and our challenging land. The Heritage Poster Contest invites students to imagine the characters and events that have shaped our province and our people."

This year's award recipients are:

  • Primary Category - Isobel Kinash, Wishart School, Wishart Saskatchewan;
  • Junior Category - Tyler Decker, Clear Spring School, Kenaston Saskatchewan;
  • Intermediate Category - Reba Decker, Clear Spring School, Kenaston Saskatchewan; and
  • Theme Category - Netania Keshane, Kamsack Comprehensive Institute, Kamsack Saskatchewan.

"The Heritage Poster Contest brings discussion of local and provincial heritage property and the importance of conservation into the classroom," Tell said. "Through their beautiful artwork, these Saskatchewan youth have shown their recognition and appreciation of our province's historic places."

The poster contest is open to all Saskatchewan students in all grade levels. This year, 137 students from communities across the province submitted a hand-crafted poster featuring a historic place in Saskatchewan along with a written statement explaining why the place is significant to them. The 6th Annual Heritage Poster Contest for Saskatchewan Students is sponsored by the Heritage Resources Branch of the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport with assistance from the Ministry of Education and the Office of French-Language Co-ordination/Office de co-ordination des affaires francophones.
