Premier Brad Wall today announced the appointment of Doug Moen, QC as Deputy Minister to the Premier. Moen takes over from Garnet Garven, who is returning to the University of Regina where he will work to establish a western Canadian office of the Ottawa-based policy think-tank, the Public Policy Forum.
Wall thanked Garven for his valuable service as the province's most senior civil servant.
"Garnet saw our new government through the transition period and provided tremendous leadership to the civil service over the first year and a half of our government," Wall said. "I know I will continue to have a close relationship with him in the future and I wish Garnet all the best in his new role."
Moen earned his law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1979 and has worked in increasingly senior positions in Saskatchewan Justice under three different administrations since 1983. He has served as Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General since September 2002.
"Doug Moen brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role as my Deputy Minister and will provide strong leadership to Saskatchewan professional public service," Wall said. "I look forward to working closely with Doug as our government moves forward on our positive agenda for Saskatchewan's future."
Moen's appointment as Deputy Minister to the Premier takes effect on June 1, 2009. Garven will remain as Deputy Minister until that time.
