PREMIER WELCOMES 86 ONTARIO FAMILIES TO SASKATCHEWAN

Released on March 3, 2009

Premier Brad Wall today welcomed 86 families who are now living in Saskatchewan following the province's successful recruiting efforts in Ontario last fall. A number of the new Saskatchewan residents are meeting with the Premier at the Legislature today.

"Even though we are not immune from the current global economic uncertainty, Saskatchewan continues to show that it is a place of opportunity," Wall said. "These talented newcomers have seized that opportunity, and are making immediate contributions to our province and our economy - and we welcome them to our communities and our workplaces."

Since the mission to Toronto, Saskatchewan has become home to a variety of skilled workers from Ontario, ranging from information technology professionals and engineers to skilled tradespeople. They are now living and working in Saskatchewan cities like Saskatoon and Regina, and in smaller communities like Frontier and Langbank.

"Our government is focused on ensuring that Saskatchewan's economy remains strong and steady in these turbulent times," Wall said. "Helping to ensure that our employers find the skilled and talented workers they need is vital to meeting that goal."

Wall said that the province would continue to spread the good word about opportunity in Saskatchewan by joining a major contingent of Saskatchewan employers at the National Job Fair in Toronto, March 31 and April 1, 2009. The Premier noted that there are still plenty of good opportunities for people from Ontario and all across Canada, as there are still more than 5,000 jobs posted on the saskjobs.ca website.
