NEW SGI PRESIDENT HIRED

Saskatchewan Government Insurance Minister June Draude today announced that Andrew Cartmell has been hired as President and CEO of Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI).

"We are extremely pleased Mr. Cartmell accepted Saskatchewan's offer to lead SGI's 1,800 staff forward in the years ahead," Draude said. "Mr. Cartmell has over 25 years' experience in the insurance industry, working his way up the ranks at the Co-operators General Insurance Company to his most recent position of Regional Vice-President for central Ontario."

Cartmell has been active in the insurance industry since graduating from the University of Waterloo. His career with the Co-operators began in 1989 when he was hired as an Actuary. At Co-operators, some of his key accomplishments included steering a major, multi-year systems upgrade and developing a strategic plan that helped to turn unprofitable portfolios into profitable ones.

SGI's previous President and CEO Jon Schubert resigned in 2008 to become President and CEO of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. Earl Cameron, Vice President of Claims and Salvage, was appointed Acting President and CEO on November 1. A private executive search firm was then contracted to conduct a national competition to attract experience, qualified candidates.

"I would like to thank Mr. Cameron for his leadership and direction over that past eight months," Draude said. "I look forward to working with Mr. Cartmell and the executive team at SGI."

SGI is composed of the Saskatchewan Auto Fund and SGI CANADA. The Auto Fund manages the province's compulsory auto insurance program, operating the driver's licensing and vehicle registration system. SGI CANADA is fully competitive, selling property and casualty insurance products such as home, farm, business and extension auto. SGI CANADA currently operates in Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

SGI works with a network of almost 300 independent insurance brokers and about 420 motor licence issuing outlets in Saskatchewan, as well as numerous brokers outside the province.
