The Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport today announced grants totalling $27,400 for events in seven Saskatchewan communities celebrating their centennials in June or July this year.
"Saskatchewan has much to be proud of. We have an enviable quality of life, a vibrant culture and a rich historic fabric," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan said. "The Building Pride program is designed to help communities celebrate special events such as centennials. These celebrations build pride in our province and our history."
Building Pride grants announced today are:
• Rural Municipality of Francis $2,500
• Rural Municipality of Wolverine $2,500
• Town of Watrous $2,500
• Town of Unity $5,000
• Village of Eyebrow $2,500
• Village of Jansen $2,500
• Tugaske Regional Arts Association $9,900
The Rural Municipality of Francis held its centennial celebration on June 27. The rest of the events run July 1 through July 5. The Town of Unity is holding a Centennial Arts and Heritage Gala as part of its centennial celebrations. The Tugaske Regional Arts Association is holding an arts celebration and launching the Tugaske Art Studio Trail, an interactive tour of the studios of local professional artists.
The Building Pride program was announced in January 2009. With an annual $750,000 allocation, Building Pride helps organizations and municipalities celebrate significant milestones and special initiatives that leave a legacy for future generations.
