The Government of Saskatchewan is continuing to encourage people to get active because Physical activity contributes to an individual's personal health and well-being.
Today the government announced a three-year commitment of $5.1 million by the Community Initiatives Fund to support efforts to increase physical activity in Saskatchewan.
"Our government is committed to supporting active, healthy lifestyles and building a province that engages all citizens in physical activity," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan said. "The Community Initiatives Fund is a valued partner with the provincial government. It advances physical activity in the province and we are pleased to support its initiatives."
The Community Initiatives Fund will use $900,000 to support strategic initiatives to advance the physical activity movement in the province. The rest of the money, $4.2 million, will be used by Saskatchewan in motion over a three-year period. It will receive $1.4 million a year.
"Saskatchewan in motion is very pleased that the Community Initiatives Fund Board of Trustees have continued to fund the in motion movement," Saskatchewan in motion Manager Cathie Kryzanowski said. "With only 12 per cent of Canadian children active enough to achieve health benefits, this investment will ensure that Saskatchewan continues to lead the country in addressing this important issue."
Today, 163 communities, 451 schools, 473 workplaces and more than 1,000 champions and leaders have already partnered with Saskatchewan in motion to promote physical activity across the province.
