The Government of Saskatchewan today announced two projects to enhance the campground electrical infrastructure in Meadow Lake Provincial Park.
The first project will see power added to 145 sites currently without electricity in the Sandy Beach, Greig Lake, Murray Doell and Waterhen Lake campgrounds. The second project is for the electrical upgrade of 90 existing sites in the Kimball Lake and Greig Lake campgrounds to bring them up to the current Canadian Electric Code.
"Park users have been requesting more electrical sites," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan said. "By upgrading existing electrical service and expanding the total number of electrified sites, the Government of Saskatchewan is ensuring park users continue to have excellent camping experiences in Meadow Lake Provincial Park."
Weber Electric Ltd. from Meadow Lake has been awarded a $596,860 contract for the 145 site electrical expansion project. Work on the electrical expansion will start mid-summer. This expansion of electrical service in Meadow Lake Provincial Park is part of government's four-year plan to add electrical service to 1,000 campsites.
Livewire Electric Ltd. from Shellbrook has been awarded a $252,000 contract for the 90 site electrical upgrade project. The upgrading of these currently existing electrical services will begin after the park closes in September.
The sites from both Meadow Lake Provincial Park projects are expected to be available for the 2010 camping season.
