EAST-CENTRAL SASKATCHEWAN TO SEE $49 MILLION IN ROAD IMPROVEMENTS

Released on July 29, 2009

$49 Million for Highway 368 and Other Road Projects

A much needed and long awaited upgrade to Highway 368 is one of many important projects that will proceed this construction season as the Saskatchewan Party government allocates $49 million for road improvements in the east-central part of our province.

"It's great to see that progress continues to be made on this important highway project," Premier Brad Wall said.

"Our export-based economy will continue to grow because of the support we are providing to key industries in this area."

Work on the Highway 368 upgrade started last year and continued this past May. Most of the work is expected to be finished this fall. Final paving will be done in 2010.

Premier Wall also thanked Saskatoon-Humboldt MP Brad Trost for the $400,000 federal contribution for design preparation and gravel crush work that began last fall.

The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure has earmarked $23 million for this project. Local partners are providing almost $300,000 in materials and services.

"Highway 368 is a crucial part of our plan, but it's only one of the many projects taking place this year in this area," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter said.

Other projects include:

  • Highways 3 and 23 near Crooked River;
  • Highway 3 bridge repairs west of Melfort;
  • Highway 6 south of Choiceland;
  • Highway 35 near Tisdale;
  • Highway 106 near Smeaton;
  • Highway 41 near Wakaw;
  • The Annaheim Access Road.
