GOVERNMENTS OF CANADA AND SASKATCHEWAN CREATE JOBS, BUILD COMMUNITIES - ALLAN

Residents of the Town of Allan will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to build new water and sewer lines for an expanded subdivision, announced today by the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification and Arm River-Watrous MLA Greg Brkich.

This project is just one example of the commitment of all three levels of government to strengthen the Saskatchewan economy by creating jobs for Saskatchewan people and getting shovels in the ground sooner.

"An investment as important as this will provide the community of Allan with safer drinking water, create jobs and generally improve the quality of life of Saskatchewan families," Yelich said. "Our Government will continue on its current path of supporting and expanding local economies so our regions can emerge from this challenging time prosperous and stronger than ever."

This project will enhance local infrastructure services and create local jobs at a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest. The new water and sewer systems for the 27-lot development will ensure the Town of Allan can meet increasing demand for new housing.

"The province continues to work in partnership with municipalities and the federal government to make infrastructure a priority in Saskatchewan," Brkich said. "This residential lot development project will go a long way to promote community growth and development in Allan."

The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan will each invest up to $156,638 in the project. The Town of Allan will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost up to $469,915.

"The Town of Allan is elated over their acceptance and approval for Building Canada Funding," AllaN Mayor Larry Sommerfeld said. "This support from the federal and provincial governments is most welcome and important to the growth and sustainability of rural towns. The funding announced for Allan will go a long way in easing the financial commitment that is necessary for continued growth."

This is one of 145 projects announced under the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund that will break ground quickly thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of over $227 million. Together with municipal contributions, the total investment in local infrastructure improvements in Saskatchewan for the Building Canada Communities Component exceeds $340 million. The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Saskatchewan communities.
