The federal and provincial governments announced today that St. Peter's College, in Muenster, and Carlton Trail Regional College, in Humboldt, will receive over $13 million for knowledge infrastructure funding to provide new educational and training opportunities for students. This joint funding complements monies raised by St. Peter's College.
Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris made today's announcement at St. Peter's College.
"Our government is pleased to work with Ottawa and local partners to enhance opportunities for students at St. Peter's College and Carlton Trail Regional College," Norris said. "This provincial investment reflects the government's ongoing commitment to advanced education and regional economic development right across Saskatchewan."
A total investment of $12 million has been received by St. Peter's College and $4.27 million is going towards Carlton Trail Regional College. Of these amounts, the provincial government contributed $3 million to St. Peter's College and $2.1 million to Carlton Trail Regional College. St. Peter's College worked diligently to raise more than $3 million, while Ottawa contributed more than $8 million to these two initiatives.
"This grant demonstrates our government's continued commitment to higher education here in Saskatchewan and across Canada," Saskatoon-Humboldt Federal MP Brad Trost said.
In addition to announcing the new funding, Norris applauded the efforts of both institutions to maximize tax dollars by working more closely together.
"I appreciate the spirit of collaboration that is evident here today, Norris added. "This evolving institutional cooperation ensures that these public dollars will help to meet the needs of more students."
"St. Peter's College and Carlton Trail Regional College are excited about the opportunity to strengthen and grow our partnership," said Glen Kobussen, Special Advisor to St. Peter's College Board. "This new partnership along with the provincial and federal investment will benefit learners, the community and the province. It will enable us to be more responsive and innovative, allowing us to better fulfil the needs of all of our stakeholders."
A transition board is in place to develop an action plan for the future partnership. This board will consist of representatives from both colleges as well as an observer from the provincial government.
