MARCH 1 TO 7 DESIGNATED ENGINEERING AND GEOSCIENCE WEEK IN SASKATCHEWAN

Released on February 26, 2009

The province has designated March 1 to 7 as Engineering and Geoscience Week in Saskatchewan to acknowledge the important role played by these professionals in a variety of fields.

"Whether it's developing better transportation, industrial and communications systems that make our export-based economy more competitive or designing new educational and health care facilities, engineers and geoscientists are vital to Saskatchewan's success," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Wayne Elhard said. "They do this work with a constant eye to new and innovative engineering methods and practices. We thank them for their positive and ongoing contributions to our province."

The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) is the regulatory body for the engineering and geoscience professions in the province with more than 7,000 members.

Throughout March, engineering associations throughout Canada will host events to highlight the profession.
