A number of Saskatchewan's Crown corporations have been recognized by Maclean's magazine in the diversity category, as part of the magazine's 2009 Top 100 Employers' competition.
Information Services Corporation (ISC), Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) and SaskPower received the Maclean's award for Canada's Best Diversity Employers. The program recognizes employers that have exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs.
"Creating a diverse workforce through relationships and partnerships is important," Crown Corporations Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "In Saskatchewan we recognize that the diversity of the people of our province make this a great place to work and live. We are proud to know that our Crowns are assembling a workforce that reflects our communities."
ISC established a diversity and equity working group that actively works to ensure the corporation has an inclusive, diverse, equitable and respectful work environment. The group is open to all employees and includes employees who are visible minorities, Aboriginal and disabled.
SGI manages an in-house internship program for Aboriginal candidates, providing interns work experience in areas such as risk evaluation, underwriting, adjusting, business analysis, community relations, accounting and human resources. This is the second year that SGI has been recognized on the list.
SaskPower's diversity strategy, which includes affinity groups for Aboriginal employees, employees with disabilities, women and visible minorities, focuses on positioning SaskPower as an employer of choice. This initiative, among others, placed the corporation in the top 20 Diversity employers in Canada.
