PREMIER WALL EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY OF FALLEN SOLDIER FROM SASKATCHEWAN

Released on August 26, 2009

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall expressed condolences today on behalf of the people of our province to the family of United States Army Sergeant Darby Morin.

Sgt. Morin, from Saskatchewan's Big River First Nation, enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating from high school. In December, he was deployed to the Charkh District in Logar Province, Afghanistan. Morin died Saturday morning near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

"Tami and I want to express our sincere condolences to Sgt. Morin's grieving family and friends, in particular his wife and his two young sons," Wall said. "I want them all to know that the thoughts and prayers of an entire province are with them."

Flags at the Saskatchewan Legislature will fly at half-mast until the funeral of Sgt. Darby Morin.

A book of condolence for Sgt. Morin's family has been placed at the main entrance of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina for signing by members of the public.  The book will remain until the funeral and can be signed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  People unable to sign the book in person can send their message of condolence at condolence@gov.sk.ca.
