Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer today thanked non-government organizations and volunteers for their delivery of emergency social services to people across Saskatchewan who are affected by disaster.
Earlier this year, Social Services entered into formal agreements with the Canadian Red Cross, Salvation Army and St. John Ambulance to assist in providing emergency programs and services.
"At any time in our lives, any one of us can suddenly find ourselves in need of emergency services," Harpauer said. "Organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross, Salvation Army and St. John Ambulance have assisted the Ministry of Social Services for many years and are valued partners in delivering programs and services to those most affected by crisis situations."
The Ministry of Social Services contracts directly with the Canadian Red Cross, Salvation Army and St. John Ambulance to deliver a variety of emergency services throughout Saskatchewan when needed. All three agencies have specialized training and skills that enhance service delivery and bring a large base of volunteers located throughout the province.
The Ministry provides emergency social services including food, clothing, shelter, counselling, and registration and inquiry to communities declaring an emergency in the event of a disaster.
"These organizations play a vital role not only for the Ministry of Social Services, but also for the communities they serve," Harpauer said. "Our government is pleased to work closely with them to help improve the quality of life for Saskatchewan people and build stronger communities."
