BY-ELECTIONS TO BE HELD IN SASKATOON AND REGINA SEPTEMBER 21

Released on August 24, 2009

Premier Brad Wall today announced that voters in the constituencies of Regina Douglas Park and Saskatoon Riversdale will go to the polls in provincial by-elections on Monday, September 21.

Both seats became vacant when their MLAs resigned on June 30.

Wall said he wanted to call the by-elections now to give the voters of those constituencies a voice in the Legislature as quickly as possible and to ensure the by-elections are concluded well in advance of municipal elections in October.

"There is also a great deal of speculation about a federal election this fall, so I wanted to ensure these by-elections were completed in advance of a possible federal campaign," Wall said.

Wall said he expects a hard-fought contest in both constituencies.

"I look forward to the opportunity to highlight our government's positive record, both in terms of economic growth and sharing the benefits of that growth with Saskatchewan people," Wall said.
