GOVERNMENT OF SASKATCHEWAN TO PROVIDE $2.5 MILLION TO NORTHWEST BIO- ENERGY LTD.

Released on August 19, 2009

The Provincial Government will provide up to $2.5 million to NorthWest Bio-Energy Ltd. under the Saskatchewan Biofuels Investment Opportunity (SaskBIO) program.

NorthWest Bio-Energy Ltd. is a subsidiary of the NorthWest Terminal, a farmer-owned inland grain terminal. This new biofuels facility, located near Unity, will produce 25 million litres of wheat-based fuel ethanol per year. The facility officially opened its doors today.

"We are pleased to provide support to NorthWest Bio-Energy Ltd. through the SaskBIO program," Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud said. "Projects such as this contribute to the growth of our rural economy and create additional marketing opportunities for our producers."

The SaskBIO program provides repayable contributions of up to $10 million per project for the construction or expansion of transportation biofuels production facilities in Saskatchewan. Eligible applicants include corporations (including co-operatives), individuals and partnerships.

"Minister Bjornerud and the Government of Saskatchewan are to be commended for the leadership demonstrated in renewable fuels," President of North West Terminal Ltd. Jim Skinner said. "It is leadership like this that will continue to create new opportunities and prosperity for agriculture in Saskatchewan."
