SWIFT CURRENT COURT HOUSE IMPROVEMENTS WILL INCREASE SECURITY AND EFFICIENCY

Released on August 18, 2009

The Ministry of Justice is continuing to make improvements to the province's court houses, with security and efficiency upgrades to the Swift Current Court House.

"The safety and security of Saskatchewan people are priorities for our government," Minister of Justice and Attorney General Don Morgan said. "These renovations are designed to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone who uses the Court House."

The renovations will include the construction of a secure prisoner's box, a secure prisoner holding area, an expanded public gallery and modifications to accommodate the use of video-conferencing.

"These renovations are part of ongoing improvements being made to address security and space deficiencies in a number of courthouses in the province," Morgan said.

Frontier Construction of Swift Current has been contracted to perform the renovations. Work is scheduled to start later this year and is budgeted at $838,000.
