SASKATCHEWAN AGRICULTURE OPENS KINDERSLEY REGIONAL OFFICE

Released on August 6, 2009

Today, Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud along with Energy and Resources Minister and Kindersley MLA Bill Boyd officially opened the new Saskatchewan Agriculture Regional Office in Kindersley.

In January, Minister Bjornerud announced an expansion of the Ministry of Agriculture's extension services, including the opening of three new offices in Watrous, Kindersley and Moose Jaw. The Kindersley office has been open to the public since May 1, 2009.

"Producers in West Central Saskatchewan contribute significantly to our agriculture industry," Bjornerud said. "After being limited to a toll-free line and website for a number of years, farmers, ranchers and agribusinesses in the area will now benefit from the hands-on, one-on-one services this office will provide."

The Kindersley Regional Office employs six full-time staff, including a Regional Crop Specialist, Regional Farm Business Management Specialist, Regional Forage Specialist, Regional Livestock Specialist and two administrative assistants.

"This is great news for the Town of Kindersley and the surrounding area," Boyd said. "This new office will restore access to extension services for producers while creating specialized agricultural careers in our community."

The Kindersley Regional Office is located at 409 Main St. and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. The Kindersley Crop Insurance office is now also located in the same building. This will benefit producers by providing a one-stop shop for both extension and Crop Insurance services at the same location.
