The Government of Saskatchewan contributed $75,000 toward repairs to Pasquia Regional Park's Dickson Hardie Interpretive Centre.
Interior repairs and upgrades to the Dickson Hardie Interpretive Centre include electrical, plumbing and carpentry. Exterior repairs include roof, soffit, facia and siding replacement.
"Our regional parks are critical players in Saskatchewan's growing tourism sector," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "Keeping interpretive centres, such as the Dickson Hardie Interpretive Centre, in good repair is essential to showcasing the rich and diverse treasures each region has to offer - Pasquia Regional Park is a great example of that."
Funding to this facility directly meets the mandate to provide capital investment in ecological, palaeontological, museum and heritage facilities.
Pasquia Regional Park is located in a rich fossil area. Perhaps the most important discovery to date is "Big Bert", a 90 million-year-old 20 foot crocodile fossil. Big Bert is the best known example of this type of crocodile.
"We are excited that the provincial government is helping to preserve these important objects," Pasquia Regional Park Manager Susan Schroepfer said. "Big Bert is an incredible find and now with funding to repair the interpretive centre, Big Bert's story and others can be told for future generations."
The Dickson Hardie Interpretive Centre includes fossils of early toothed birds, sharks and bony fish, turtles and large marine reptiles known as plesiosaurs that have long necks and paddle-like limbs.
