Changes to Saskatchewan's liquor laws mean eligible businesses can now offer U-brew/U-vin services.
Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) Dan D'Autremont said eligible businesses receiving a permit from SLGA can now offer supplies, space, equipment and expertise to customers who want to make their own beer or wine on-site.
"These changes to Saskatchewan's liquor laws will mean that businesses can begin offering a service that many people in Saskatchewan will be interested in," D'Autremont said. "Our government is modernizing Saskatchewan's liquor laws so that small business can continue to grow in a vibrant economy."
The new U-brew/U-vin permits are the result of a review of liquor permitting and regulation in the province. The review has resulted in a number of other regulatory changes that impact commercial and special occasion liquor permittees.
Among the changes, which took effect today, is a new permit for businesses who want to offer a home delivery service for beverage alcohol. Another change will see all liquor permitted establishments that sell wine by the bottle be required to recork partially consumed bottles of wine if requested by the customer. There are also increased fines and penalties for those businesses that sell alcohol to minors.
"As Minister, one of my priorities has been to streamline Saskatchewan's liquor laws by increasing flexibility and opportunity for businesses involved in the liquor industry," D'Autremont said. "At the same time, strengthening the socially responsible sale and service of beverage alcohol remains important."
