NEW TPCS INFRASTRUCTURE CONSULTATIONS UNDERWAY

Released on September 30, 2008

The Government of Saskatchewan will ask rural and urban municipalities, and other key stakeholders, to participate in consultations to help in the development of a new Saskatchewan Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport (TPCS) infrastructure program.

"Our interest is to examine how best to address future tourism, sport, cultural and recreational infrastructure needs throughout the province," TPCS Minister Christine Tell said. "Our concern with the old Building Communities Program, which ended this year, was that communities could not access funds for projects under $1 million. We look forward to talking with our key stakeholders to help us develop a new program that builds a better life and makes a stronger Saskatchewan."

Individual sessions will be held with stakeholder groups to discuss key issues, after which these groups will be given the opportunity to review and comment on the information received from all of the sessions. The information from the consultations will be used to guide development of a newly proposed infrastructure program.

The Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport will begin contacting key stakeholders within the next few weeks. Consultations are expected to last until early December.

For more information on consultations visit the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport website at www.tpcs.gov.sk.ca.
