The business community and stakeholders in Saskatchewan will now have direct input in the province's regulatory reform process and business services improvements following the establishment of the Regulatory Modernization Council (RMC).
The RMC, which was launched today, will recommend regulatory reform and business services priorities and forward them to the Enterprise Saskatchewan (ES) Board. It will also assist ES in monitoring the progress toward meeting regulatory and service enhancement goals.
"This new Council is part of Saskatchewan's ongoing plans to improve government service by making it easier for businesses to do business and to interact with government," Enterprise and Innovation Minister Lyle Stewart said. "Direct input from the stakeholders means that we are able to make timely and meaningful changes to our regulatory regime and make our province attractive to investors."
The RMC is comprised of seven members from various sectors of the business community. They have first-hand knowledge of how red tape affects private industry and their input will assist in the collaborative decision-making within the regulatory modernization process.
The members of the RMC are:
- Ms. Marilyn Braun-Pollon, Vice President, Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), Regina;
- Mr. Kerny Korchinski, President and CEO, Frontier Peterbilt Sales Ltd., Saskatoon;
- Ms. Bev Monea, Partner, G. Monea and Associates, Assiniboia;
- Mr. Richard Rumberger, CEO, Candle Lake Golf Resort, Candle Lake;
- Ms. Shirley Ryan, Executive Director, North Saskatoon Business Association, Saskatoon;
- Mr. Bob Schutzman, Director of Environmental Affairs Canada, Evraz Inc., Regina; and
- Mr. Ben W. Wiebe, Chairman and Partner, Stark & Marsh Chartered Accountants, Swift Current.
The ES board identified establishment of the RMC as a high priority in enhancing Saskatchewan's business environment and growing the economy. The Council, together with staff from ES, will work together to develop expertise in business regulatory reform and service delivery.
