ADDITIONAL ANTLERLESS WHITE-TAILED DEER LICENCES AVAILABLE SOUTH OF SPIRITWOOD

Released on October 1, 2008

One thousand Big Game Management Licences are now available to hunt antlerless white-tailed deer in Wildlife Management Zone 54, an area south of Spiritwood. Antlerless deer are adult females or young animals born in the spring of 2008.

The 1,000 management licences are in addition to the regular season licences offered by the Ministry of Environment, and reflect high deer populations in Zone 54.

Hunters may purchase two Big Game Management licences, which cost $19.62 each and are only valid in Wildlife Management Zone 54. Each hunter also needs a $10.79 Wildlife Habitat Certificate.

The licences are valid during the regular seasons and hunters may use those weapons that the season allows, such as archery equipment, muzzleloaders or rifles. The archery season for white-tailed deer in Zone 54 opened on September 1, and will be followed by the muzzleloader season on October 1 and rifle season on November 1. All regular seasons close on December 4, 2008.

Licences are only available at Ministry of Environment field offices in Spiritwood, Prince Albert, North Battleford and Saskatoon.

Hunters are encouraged to turn in deer heads to local ministry field offices for Chronic Wasting Disease testing. There is no charge for the test.
