Released on November 25, 2008

Today, Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud signed a memorandum of understanding with Canadian Western Agribition securing the Ministry of Agriculture as a platinum sponsor of one of the world's premier agricultural showcases.

The memorandum commits $250,000 in provincial funding to Canadian Western Agribition over a five-year period. This is the largest provincial contribution to Agribition in Saskatchewan's history.

"Agribition is recognized throughout the world," Bjornerud said. "We are pleased to provide long-term funding to help ensure the event's success in the future."

"We have always been grateful for the strong support of the province and we are delighted with this long-term commitment from the Ministry of Agriculture," Agribition president Shannon McArton said. "It indicates the government's continued recognition of the importance of Agribition as a global marketplace for Saskatchewan and Canadian agriculture."

Canadian Western Agribition is Canada's Premier International Agricultural Show and Marketplace featuring more than 4,000 head of livestock, more than 450 commercial trade show exhibits, the Canadian Cowboys' Association Finals Rodeo and western entertainment.
