MAJOR RENOVATIONS SCHEDULED FOR SASKATOON’S E.D. FEEHAN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL

Released on November 20, 2008

Students at Saskatoon's E.D. Feehan Catholic High School celebrated today when Deputy Premier and Education Minister Ken Krawetz announced government funding of approximately $3.75 million for significant renovations and upgrades. Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division will provide the remaining funds for the project.

"The Government of Saskatchewan is ensuring a better life for all through investments in education," Krawetz said. "The renovations and upgrades to the school will provide a safer, more accessible environment and will include more appropriately designed space for educational programming, which in turn will improve student achievement."

"E.D. Feehan Catholic High School has a long tradition of providing a well-rounded Catholic education to students who soon become members of the 'Feehan Family'," Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools board chair Diane Boyko said. "Renovating and rejuvenating the school facility will ensure that Feehan remains a school where students pursue academic and extracurricular excellence - and learn how to become people who make a difference in their communities."

The renovation is intended to provide space for the facility to function as a community school and offer a variety of trade-related training options.

"E.D. Feehan Catholic High School has allowed me to experience Catholic education at its best," Grade 12 student at Feehan Kayla Osika said. "I truly believe that by belonging to the 'Feehan family', who I am does make a difference. We know that these renovations will be important to the future members of the Feehan family."

The E.D. Feehan Catholic High School capital project is part of the Government of Saskatchewan's Ready for Growth commitment of over $117 million in 2008-09 for strengthening existing schools and new construction. An additional $60 million was announced later in the year for projects that will begin in 2009.
