The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority is providing an additional $400,000 to producer groups and municipalities for water control projects.
"We've heard from a number of groups such as Conservation and Development Area Authorities, Watershed Associations and rural municipalities about the need for financial support for these projects," Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority Nancy Heppner said. "Today we are providing an additional $400,000 to fully share the cost of establishing and maintaining these projects."
The additional funding will cover costs up to 50 per cent for qualifying projects under the Authority's Rural Water Control Assistance Program, its Channel Clearing Assistance Program, and its Erosion Control Assistance Program.
"Supporting these locally-developed and locally-managed projects assists producers and rural municipalities control the water adjacent to their property so that they can avoid flooding, reduce erosion and protect their land and infrastructure," Heppner said. "We are working with local stakeholders to provide important infrastructure and build a stronger Saskatchewan."
