ANNUAL SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE HONOURS VETERANS

Released on November 6, 2008

Premier Brad Wall laid a wreath this morning at the Saskatchewan War Memorial as part of the government's annual Service of Remembrance for the Public Service.

"Today, we renew our pledge to never forget the men and women who have served our country, and those that continue to do so," Wall said. "We hold you forever in our prayers and in our hearts."

The Saskatchewan Legislative Building is the provincial site of Vigil 1914-1918, a week-long project organized by the National History Society and the Department of Veterans Affairs Canada, to remember the fallen soldiers of WWI. From November 4 to 11, the names of 68,000 Canadian men and women who were killed in WWI will be projected onto significant memorials and buildings across Canada. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the end of this war.

"I hope that everyone will take a moment this week to view those names and reflect on the enormity of our loss," Wall said.

The Saskatchewan War Memorial is located on the Legislative grounds just west of the Legislature on Memorial Way and includes the WWI Memorial and the Memorial for WWII, the Korean War and Peace Keeping Operations.
