Released on May 16, 2008

As part of the Ready for Growth Initiative, the Government of Saskatchewan is investing $179,000 in E.S. Laird Middle School for roofing upgrades.

"We recognize the learning success and achievement of our young people is vital to securing the future of our province," Education Minister Ken Krawetz said. "Providing our students with high quality schools is an important part of the government's growth agenda."

The E.S. Laird Middle School project is part of a $6.4 million investment by the Government of Saskatchewan to improve 36 schools across the province. Projects receiving funding include accessibility, roofing, building system and mechanical system upgrades, renovations and additions, including relocatable classrooms. The funding for these projects will be cost-shared with school divisions across the province.

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing a record $117.6 million in Kindergarten to Grade 12 school capital projects throughout the province this year. A $100 million has been committed to major capital projects, with the remaining $17.6 million targeted toward smaller capital projects identified by school divisions, including the 36 announced today.
