EMPLOYERS RECOGNIZED FOR COMMITMENT TO WORK AND FAMILY BALANCE

Released on May 9, 2008

Saskatchewan employers who demonstrate excellence and dedication in facilitating work and family balance received the 2008 Saskatchewan Work and Family Balance Awards at a gala event last evening.

"The effective balance of work and family responsibilities in Saskatchewan workplaces is extremely beneficial to individuals, their families and the future of our province," Deputy Premier and Education Minister Ken Krawetz said on behalf of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris. "Through the awards, we are pleased to recognize employers who show dedication and innovation in achieving that balance among their employees."

The Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour partnered with Regina Work-Life Balance Network to sponsor the awards.

"Organizations that recognize the importance of work-life balance will secure talented employees, who are a benefit to their families and communities," Regina Work-Life Balance Network president Kathleen Spatt said. "At the Network, we are working hard to make changes that promote balance in workplace culture."

The Work and Family Balance Awards are held every two years. Recipients are chosen by the Awards Selection Committee, which is comprised of leaders from Saskatchewan business, labour and community organizations.

This year, there were 11 award recipients chosen from the private, public, non-profit and co-operative sectors in three categories; Small Workplace, Medium Workplace and Large Workplace.
