Released on May 7, 2008

A Saskatchewan student has been awarded a full scholarship to attend the world-renowned International Baccalaureate Program at Lester B. Pearson United World College in British Columbia.

Julia Clark from Walter Murray Collegiate Institute in Saskatoon has received the annual provincial scholarship and will begin the two-year program this fall. The scholarship, jointly sponsored by the college and the Ministry of Education, is worth more than $60,000. Clark will join last year's recipient, Adam Harding, from Humboldt Collegiate Institute in Humboldt.

"During their time at the college, Julia and Adam will be ambassadors for our province and they will bring the benefit of their exceptional educational experience home to Saskatchewan," Education Minister Ken Krawetz said.

The International Baccalaureate Program at Lester B. Pearson College gives students the opportunity to excel academically, meet students and teachers from around the world and promote international understanding and co-operation.

Pearson College is one of 10 United World Colleges established throughout the world. Located near Victoria, British Columbia, the college creates a dynamic international community where 200 young people from 88 countries live, study and serve the community together. All students attend on full scholarship.
