TODAY IS MUSIC MONDAY

Released on May 5, 2008

School bands, community and professional organizations and ensembles from across Canada are taking their instruments and their love of music outdoors (weather permitting) at 10 a.m. today in celebration of Music Monday, where they will perform the same piece of music at the same time.

"Music Monday is a day to celebrate the power of music in Canada and demonstrate how that power is rooted in our culture and part of who we are," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "Music Monday reminds us that we should value and embrace our Saskatchewan music every day of the year and I congratulate everyone participating in this wonderful experience."

The Coalition for Music Education in Canada, in conjunction with numerous band and music associations from the province and across the country has spearheaded this initiative since 2005. There are approximately 65 Saskatchewan schools, and 1,377 Canadian schools, registered to participate.
