BOYD TO ADDRESS URANIUM SYMPOSIUM

Released on March 31, 2008

Energy and Resources Minister Bill Boyd will be a keynote speaker on Saskatchewan's uranium strengths and potential at an industry conference in Vancouver this week.

The Canadian Uranium Symposium, April 2-3, is a new conference organized by the Canadian Institute in conjunction with junior exploration company Ucore Uranium Inc. Boyd speaks Wednesday to the approximately 70 mining executives, investment leaders and government officials attending the symposium.

"As both Canada's only producer and the world's largest producer of uranium, Saskatchewan has a great story to tell," Boyd said. "It is a story that is still being written, as we explore new value-added activities for our province in the nuclear fuel cycle."

The minister said he will tell attendees about Saskatchewan's current production and new mines coming on-stream, and reinforce how Saskatchewan, with one of the most diverse energy resource bases in the world, is ideally positioned to be a major contributor to continental energy security and supply.

Saskatchewan supplies about a quarter of world uranium production and has 800 million pounds of uranium reserves. Provincial mines have ore grades one hundred times richer than the world average.

The symposium will feature speakers from the United States Department of Energy and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission in addition to Boyd.
