PROVINCE’S GROWING ECONOMY BENEFITS SASKATCHEWAN PEOPLE

Released on June 27, 2008

Saskatchewan people are earning more and benefiting from a strong economy

"Saskatchewan has strong economic momentum that is having a positive effect on people in our province," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said.

The average earnings of a payroll employee in Saskatchewan are $750.96 per week. Saskatchewan recorded the second largest increase among provinces with 5.4 per cent and well above the national average of 3.2 per cent.

"The increase in wages shows that we are working to not only sustain the growth, but to ensure that its benefits are shared with the people of our province," Norris said.

Month-over-month, Saskatchewan experienced a 0.2 per cent increase in employment earnings, reflecting a trend experienced throughout western Canada. The province's average weekly earnings are fourth in Canada, behind Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia.
