Plans are underway to enhance Pike Lake and a number of other provincial parks as part of the government's $20 million, four-year investment in parks.
"Saskatchewan Provincial Parks continue to be one of the most visited and popular tourism destinations in Saskatchewan," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "Our government is keeping its promise by investing an additional $20 million in parks over four years, starting with $5 million in improvements this year."
The number of electrified campsites is being increased by 1,000 over the next four years. This year 302 campsites will be electrified, including electrification of 89 campsites in Pike Lake Provincial Park, late this summer. Pike Lake Provincial Park is a short 20 minute drive southwest of Saskatoon, where visitors can enjoy a swimming pool and waterslide, natural beach area, canoeing, wildlife viewing and nature walks, interpretive programs, camping, picnicking, golfing, sand volleyball, mini-golf and more.
New electrification and electrical upgrades of campsites will also take place in Makwa Lake and The Battlefords Provincial Parks and at Emma Lake Recreation Site. Other capital investment projects being completed or commencing this year include: new campground service centres in Echo Valley, Rowan's Ravine and Danielson Provincial Parks; the Cypress Hills visitor centre and café; The Battleford's new beach changehouse; Grieg Lake sewage lagoon upgrade at Meadow Lake Provincial Park and entry kiosks at Greenwater Lake and Moose Mountain.
Some other Provincial Park initiatives this year include the elimination of the campfire fee; increased customer service, security, and facility cleaning and maintenance; and expansion of the campground reservation service, Reserve-A-Site. Several nature and cultural conservation initiatives are also underway.
