RECRUITING MISSIONS YIELD PROMISING RESULTS

Released on June 3, 2008

Successful missions to the Philippines and to southwestern Ontario have Saskatchewan employers returning home optimistic about the number and quality of potential recruits.

"We are working to sustain our economic momentum by helping to meet Saskatchewan's talent challenge," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "Our government is pleased to play a role in spreading the Saskatchewan story and helping employers find the talent they need to further strengthen our economy."

The eleven Saskatchewan employers participating on the Philippines mission were extremely satisfied and expect to offer over 250 jobs to Filipino candidates. Those new employees can expect to arrive in Saskatchewan within six months.

More than 1,200 job seekers attended the WorkWest career fair in London, Ontario, May 30 and 31. While hiring decisions are yet to be made, employers came home satisfied with the number of motivated, high-quality candidates and are optimistic about meeting their goals for the event.

"Areva was very pleased to be included with other employers at WorkWest in support of our companies' recruitment initiatives," Areva Resources Canada Inc. Strategic Staffing Advisor Larry Flowers said. "We met a large number of experienced professionals and we expect to make a number of employment offers in the coming months."

"These missions complement our work to help underrepresented sectors of our population, including First Nations and Métis people, engage more fully in our economy and to retain more of our young people in Saskatchewan," Norris said. "This broader effort to grow our labour force will help ensure that the benefits of our growing economy are shared among more people."
