SASKATCHEWAN MOURNS THE LOSS OF FRED W. HILL

Released on July 14, 2008

Enterprise and Innovation Minister Lyle Stewart today expressed sadness at the passing of Mr. Fred W. Hill.

"On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I want to extend our deepest sympathies to the Hill family and also to recognize Fred W. Hill for the numerous contributions he has made to our wonderful province," Stewart said. "Mr. Hill's efforts in business and his community are best summed up by the family's philosophy ‘as businessmen, if we can't do things that contribute to our world and help people, we have fallen short of our mission'. Mr. Hill never fell short of this philosophy."

Stewart said Fred Hill was known as a decorated war hero, prominent businessman and philanthropist. Among many other worthwhile accomplishments, Mr. Hill established the Madonna Foundation for charities, received both the Order of Canada and the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, and is responsible for Regina's first private residential housing development.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Hill family and friends at this difficult time," Stewart said.
