NEW VICE-CHAIR APPOINTED TO LABOUR RELATIONS BOARD

Released on July 11, 2008

Steven Schiefner has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board for a five-year term.

"Mr. Schiefner has extensive experience in the practice of law and government administration," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "That experience, in conjunction with his strong research and administrative background, will help him make a valuable contribution as the Board delivers timely and effective services to the labour relations community."

Schiefner obtained his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a Certificate in Administration from the University of Regina. He is currently the City Clerk/Solicitor for the City of Moose Jaw.

The Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board is a quasi-judicial tribunal that adjudicates disputes under The Trade Union Act and deals with applications for union certification or decertification. The Board operates independently of government and is comprised of equal numbers of employee and employer representatives.

The position at the Board has been vacant since March 2008.
