The province is celebrating Saskatchewan Archives Week February 4-10.
"Memoirs of Saskatchewan's many achievements are well documented," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "In honour of our province's heritage and the ongoing work done to preserve it, the provincial government is proud to proclaim Archives Week in Saskatchewan.
"The week is dedicated to celebrating our archival records and the people who maintain them," Tell said. "These records of our collective past play a vital role in developing our understanding of Saskatchewan's shared history and culture."
During Saskatchewan Archives Week, CBC Radio's "Blue Sky" program is featuring an Archives Phone-In. This Phone-In will feature two special guests: Saskatchewan Council for Archives and Archivists Executive Director Carey Isaak and City of Saskatoon Archivist, Jeff O'Brien.
In both Regina and Saskatoon, "Spotlight on the Past: Celebrity Readings from Archives in Saskatchewan" events will feature celebrities reading original works chosen from the holdings of various archives in Saskatchewan.
The Regina office of the Saskatchewan Archives Board will be hosting a genealogy open house. Displays about genealogical resources and services found at Saskatchewan Archives Board will be complemented by displays from genealogical partners including Information Services Corporation of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society.
In Saskatoon, local archival organizations will participate in an "Archives Road Show" at the annual Saskatoon Heritage Festival at the Western Development Museum. Archives' representatives will be available to assist visitors with questions about specific archival research topics, resources, as well questions about archives in general.
