The month of March has been proclaimed as Rural Women's Month in Saskatchewan.
"This proclamation recognizes the important contributions of rural Saskatchewan women to the economic and social development of this province," Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud said.
"Since early homesteading days, rural women have been partners in their family farms and businesses. In addition to their dedication to the land, working off-farm jobs and raising families, rural women have also made the time to serve their communities, through involvement in churches, school and hospital boards, 4-H clubs, sports organizations and agricultural societies."
Bjornerud said the lives and accomplishments of rural women have been recorded in local history books and by the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame in Saskatoon.
"It is appropriate that Saskatchewan celebrate the past achievements of all rural women, and acknowledge their continued contributions," Bjornerud said.
Rural Women's Month will be observed in conjunction with events held in March by various women's groups in communities across the province. Some of these events are organized in association with the United Nation's International Women's Day on March 8.
