For the sixth year in a row, Ethan was the most popular name for baby boys born in Saskatchewan. Ava was the most popular girl's name for the last two years, trading the top spots with the names Madison and Emma.
There were 91 baby boys named Ethan in 2007, followed by Logan, Matthew, Noah and Carter in order of popularity. Ninety-eight baby girls were named Ava in 2007, followed by Emma, Hannah, Olivia and Emily. For the first time in seven years, the name Madison was edged out of the top third most popular names for girls.
To date, there are 13,352 live births registered in Saskatchewan in 2007, which is an increase from 12,427 live births in 2006. These numbers do not include Saskatchewan mothers who gave birth outside of the province.
