HUTCHINSON FOCUSED ON BUILDING GOVERNMENT-TO-GOVERNMENT RELATIONSHIPS

Released on February 1, 2008

Municipal Affairs Minister Bill Hutchinson says building government-to-government relationships with municipalities will be his primary goal at the upcoming annual convention of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA), February 3-6 in Regina, as well as the March convention of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM).

"After attending a number of SUMA conventions during my years on Regina's City Council, I'm looking forward to my first one as Minister," Hutchinson said. "My message to delegates at both the SUMA and SARM conventions will be simple: the provincial government wants to work with municipal governments as partners to address their concerns around important issues like infrastructure and revenue sharing. I'm excited about the opportunity to meet with municipal leaders to discuss ways we can make that happen."

Hutchinson noted he's been able to meet with many people in the municipal sector since being appointed to cabinet.

"I've been from Estevan to Creighton and plenty of places in between, and have already met with leaders from SUMA, SARM and several other organizations," Hutchinson said. "That being said, I know that the work has just begun, and I intend to stay busy. I've made a commitment to the municipal sector that I will be accessible to them and an advocate for them around the cabinet table."
