Approximately 940 groups and organizations across the province will receive more than $1.4 million in charitable gaming grants distributed by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA).
Groups that receive funds through licensed charitable gaming (bingo, raffles, breakopen ticket sales, Texas Hold'em poker and Monte Carlo events) receive a grant equal to 25 per cent of net proceeds raised through these activities. The grants are paid quarterly.
"The volunteers in these groups and organizations provide services that are important for creating a strong community," Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority Dan D'Autremont said. "Our government is pleased to provide grants that help these organizations make a difference in their communities."
The grants support diverse groups and organizations across the province. Some of the most recent recipients include the Lung Association of Saskatchewan ($30,953), the Regina Public Library ($84,395) and the La Ronge Band Funds ($88,105).
Groups that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities and events do not have to apply for the charitable gaming grant. Charitable gaming reports submitted by groups and organizations are used by SLGA to calculate grants. During the past year, SLGA has provided more than $7.2 million in charitable gaming grants.
