2008 LIBRARY EDUCATION BURSARY AWARDED

Released on December 23, 2008

Shauna May from Prince Albert is the successful recipient of the 2008 Library Education Bursary. The annual $5,000 bursary offers funding to a student enrolled or accepted in a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program, or equivalent, who will live and work in Saskatchewan for at least two years after graduating.

"Congratulations to Shauna for being awarded the 2008 Library Education Bursary," Deputy Premier and Education Minister Ken Krawetz said. "I commend young people like Shauna who return to Saskatchewan to build a career here, and to be part of the province's future. The Library Education Bursary is an excellent incentive for MLIS graduates to bring their skills back to the province and grow our knowledge-based economy."

Shauna graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 2006, with a double honours Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Studies. She is currently enrolled at the University of Western Ontario, and will complete her MLIS in April 2009.

"I am honoured to have been chosen as the recipient of the Saskatchewan Libraries Education Bursary," May said. "I wish to thank the Saskatchewan Library Association, the Saskatchewan Provincial Library, the Ministry of Education and the Multitype Library Board. This award will be a great help to me as I complete my MLIS degree, and I look forward to returning to Saskatchewan, my home, to begin my career."

"The Saskatchewan Libraries Education Bursary is an initiative that developed from a partnership between government and libraries working together to ensure the best possible library services for our communities by attracting competent professional staff to Saskatchewan," Multitype Library board chair Zenon Zuzak said. "We are very pleased to award this year's bursary to Shauna. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours."

Bursary information and applications for the 2009 bursary will be provided by the Saskatchewan Library Association early next year.
