Released on December 9, 2008
One hundred and fifty Big Game Management Licences will soon be available to hunt antlerless mule deer and antlerless white-tailed deer in the 17 Wing Detachment Dundurn Training Area.
Antlerless deer are adult females or young animals born in the spring of 2008. The extra licences will reduce high deer populations within the training area.
The licences cost $19.62 each and are only valid within the 17 Wing Detachment Dundurn Training Area. Each hunter also needs a 2008 Wildlife Habitat Certificate. Licences will only be available at the Ministry of Environment field office in Saskatoon at 112 Research Drive starting Monday, December 15.
The licences are valid from January 12 to February 7, 2009. All regular hunting season regulations still apply.
To track the success of the program, hunters are asked to turn in unused licences and the heads of all deer, including fawns, to the Saskatoon Field Office. Adult deer heads that are turned in will be tested for Chronic Wasting Disease. There is no charge for the test. Hunters using one of the Dundurn licences who turn in the head of an antlerless deer to the Saskatoon field office will be able to purchase an either-sex licence for either deer species that is valid for the same time and area.
