A new Peer-to-Peer network has been created to assist health professionals who are learning to use E-Health technology. The network will jump-start the uptake of the electronic health record among health providers in Saskatchewan and bring residents enhanced care that is faster, safer and more secure.
The network is made up of a group of early adopters and champions of the electronic health record in Saskatchewan. They will share their expertise with their peers and promote awareness of electronic health record solutions.
"The Health Quality Council's 'Quality Insight Report' recommended the province accelerate the adoption of the electronic health record," Health Minister Don McMorris said. "This network is part of our commitment to support health care professionals as they learn E-Health systems."
"The union of technology and the human touch is one of the challenges in health care today. We are pleased to offer this opportunity to health care providers to share best practices and build new knowledge. Research indicates that one of the most powerful ways to learn is with your teacher by your side."
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health, together with the Saskatchewan Medical Association, Saskatchewan Pharmacy Association and the Saskatchewan Registered Nursing Association, have recruited five physicians, eight nurses and three pharmacists to participate as peer leaders. These health professionals come from a number of health regions in the province.
The project will be funded fully by Canada Health Infoway. The total cost is $486,000.
