The Province of Saskatchewan has set aside $3,708,387 from the Building Communities Program for a new sport and recreation infrastructure project in Melville.
The Melville Communiplex will replace the aging Melville Stadium, ensuring continued opportunities for sport and recreation in the city and surrounding area. The new facility is intended to house a 1,700 seat arena, a Cardiac Care and Fitness Centre, and a Seniors Centre.
"Access to sport and recreation opportunities helps communities grow and enjoy improved quality of life," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "This project has the potential to offer significant sport and recreational benefits to the city of Melville."
The Building Communities Program has also committed $3,023,258 for projects in Sandy Bay, Saskatoon and Martensville.
The Building Communities Program is in its third and final year. More than $90 million has been granted to communities across the province demonstrating the province's commitment to funding cultural, sport and recreational infrastructure. It also demonstrates a strong commitment to increasing tourism, encouraging economic and community growth and supporting Saskatchewan's young people.
