The Province of Saskatchewan is using $2,890,208 from the Building Communities Program to fund three projects in Saskatoon and one in Martensville.
The projects include upgrades to Saskatoon's Indoor Arenas, the WJL Harvey North Park and the development of South East Park in Saskatoon, as well as the development of an aquatic facility in Martensville.
"These projects offer significant recreational benefits to their communities," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "They will further improve the quality of life we already enjoy here in Saskatchewan."
"With a growing economy and population, we must ensure that we improve and expand our incredible park system and sports facilities," Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison said. "With assistance from our senior levels of government, we will ensure that these important opportunities are abundant and accessible to all."
"This financial assistance from the Building Communities Program enables us to reach our goal to build an aquatic facility for the residents of Martensville," Mayor Giles Saulnier said. "The people from the surrounding communities gave us their support for this project and we will all benefit during the hot summer days."
The Building Community Program, in its third and final year, granted more than $90 million to support larger projects across the province. A new program will soon be developed to address the future needs of all Saskatchewan communities.
"One concern of the Building Community Program was that smaller communities were not able to access funds for the projects they had that were under $1 million," Tell said. "We are looking to address that concern in the development of a new program."
